Billions of Android Phones at Risk of Hacking – Is Yours One of Them?
More than one billion Android users worldwide are facing a serious security risk. Manny Android phones still in use no longer receive system and security updates, leaving them vulnerable.This may not be apparent to users who are satisfied with their older devices.
Data from analytics company StatCounter shows that as of November 2025,nearly 35 percent of global Android users are still running Android 13 or an earlier version.
Specifically, around 14.99 percent of devices are using Android 13, 10.88 percent are running Android 12, and 8.98 percent still use Android 11. In total, 34.85 percent of active Android devices are operating on what is considered an outdated system.
Android 13 was first released in 2022,Android 12 in 2021,and Android 11 in 2020. The latest Android phones currently run Android 16 or Android 15.
With an estimated number of global Android users exceeding 3.5 billion, this means approximately 1.35 billion cell phones are vulnerable to hundreds of security flaws, data theft, and malware because they no longer receive regular updates.
Android support is considerably less thorough than iPhone support. The Android ecosystem relies on the policies of individual manufacturers, leading many phones to stop receiving updates within 2-3 years.
