The Russians announced the occupation of Peschany – is this true? ISW’s response

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has dispelled yet another Russian fake news regarding the “successes” of the Russian Armed Forces in the Yuzhno-Slobozhansky and Kupyansky directions. So recently, a Russian blogger claimed that the invaders had captured new territories in Volchanskiye Khutory, Staritsa, and also advanced between Liman and Vilcha.

“Russian troops advanced northeast of the city near Volchansk, Volchanskiye Khutors, Liman, Staritsa and Prilipka on January 5 and 6. A Russian blogger said that Ukrainian forces counterattacked near Staritsa,” writes the Institute for the Study of War.

The enemy’s data about the occupation of Peschany, as well as about the alleged advance of the Russian army in Kurilovka and Kondrashovka – settlements located in the Kupyansky direction – also turned out to be untrue.

“On January 5 and 6, Russian troops attacked in the west of Kupyansk and towards it; north of Kupyansk near Dvurechansky and Petro-Ivanovka and in the direction of Kondrashovka and Kutkovka; northeast of Kupyansk near Otradny; east of Kupyansk in the direction of Petropavlovka; and southeast of Kupyansk in the direction of Kurilovka,” analysts report.
