Arc Raiders players are debating the potential for a trading system within the free-to-play extraction shooter, with concerns about loot scarcity and game balance taking center stage. While developer Embark has not confirmed any plans for official trading features, the studio acknowledges the community’s feedback and remains open to possibilities as the game evolves.
Community Concerns and Existing Workarounds
A recent Reddit post highlighted player anxieties about implementing trading. One user noted that, after a recent reset, they quickly reacquired most items, suggesting a limited amount of unique loot currently exists within the game. This scarcity raises concerns that a trading system would be ineffective without a substantial increase in item variety, perhaps requiring the introduction of randomized attributes similar to those found in games like Warframe or Diablo – a change that could disrupt game balance.
Despite these concerns, a segment of the Arc Raiders community believes that carefully implemented player-to-player exchanges could enhance the overall experience. Some players have already established unofficial trading networks outside of the game, demonstrating a demand for this functionality. The hope is that an official in-game system could attract and retain more casual players.
Embark’s Response and Future Plans
Embark CEO Lars Söderlund emphasized that the studio is still in the early stages of advancement and actively considering player feedback. “there’s nothing that we’ve decided yet, but that’s the fun part of building something like this: This is really the start of something,” Söderlund told The Verge. “We beleive that there’s so many things that we can look into and do and add to the game. It’s fun.”
Following the holiday season, Arc Raiders is focusing on addressing key issues and expanding its content. Embark has announced plans to combat cheaters, responding to growing player complaints, and is preparing balance updates with a new patch expected soon. However, the studio has confirmed that leaderboards are not currently planned for the game.
