A Controversial Trial
“The Crown indicated that they were still minded to continue with the prosecution,” stated prosecutor Jonathan Stirland during a recent court hearing.
However, Hoganson’s defense attorney argued that without the opportunity to cross-examine Ms. Usher, the trial should be dismissed, citing letters she had written to the actor as evidence of inconsistencies in her statements.
Ultimately, the district judge ruled that the trial would proceed in Ms. Usher’s absence, stating that “It’s in the interest of justice for the trial to go ahead” given the seriousness of the alleged charges.
