Rohit Sharma Out, Gill In as India Aims for Series Level in Sydney

All eyes were on the Indian camp in Sydney on Friday morning as the team announced a surprising change to their XI for the crucial second Test against Australia. Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, has been ruled out of the match, replaced by young batsman Shubman Gill as India seeks to level the series and keep their World Test Championship final hopes alive.

Jasprit Bumrah, India’s stand-in captain, confirmed that Sharma had “opted” to be rested for the match. Akash Deep, who was originally scheduled to play, was unavailable due to a back injury and was replaced by Prasidh Krishna.

Australia, on the other hand, had already announced their playing XI a day prior to the start of play. The team includes Travis Head and Beau Webster, who was handed national Test cap 469.
