Frankfurt – Bitter news for Eintracht Frankfurt and all fans of the traditional club: young hopeful Nilo Neuendorff has been seriously injured and is expected to be absent from the club for a long time. The 18-year-old left-back had to be substituted after just 15 minutes in the Frankfurt U19 Youth League game against Athletic Bilbao after he was injured without any involvement from the opponent.
The injury significantly dampened the joy of the young Eagles’ later surprise victory. More detailed information about the type of injury and the downtime has only now been provided: Eintracht Frankfurt announced that the 18-year-old will be out indefinitely due to an injury to his kneecap. Neuendorff will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Bitter diagnosis for Eintracht-Jewel
For Neuendorff, the injury represents a bitter setback at a time when his career was actually taking off. It was only in December 2025 that Eintracht Frankfurt announced that the Frankfurt native had been awarded a professional contract. The club honored the strong development of the young full-back, who had matured in recent years from a promising youth player to an integral part of the second team and a promising player for the professionals.
At the time, sports director Timmo Hardung was convinced that Neuendorff had the potential to gain a foothold in the Bundesliga squad in the medium term. Neuendorff’s path is a prime example of a regional success story. The 1.84 meter tall defender began his career at SV Viktoria Preußen 07 and moved to Kickers Offenbach as a youth before returning to Eintracht at the age of 13.
He has been wearing the jersey of the traditional Frankfurt club since 2021 and was instrumental in the success of the U17, which became champions of the Bundesliga South/Southwest in 2023/24. His consistent performances also earned him appearances in the German U18 and U19 national teams. He made his debut in the DFB team under coach Christian Wörns in March 2025 and has since gained valuable international experience.
However, due to the current injury, Neuendorff is now facing a longer break, which will initially slow down his rise. For Eintracht, the loss of such a talent is a painful loss, not only in terms of sport, but also emotionally – after all, Neuendorff is considered a real homegrown player and a symbol of the Hessians’ successful youth development.
