Barcelona have formally lodged a complaint with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) over the officiating in their Copa del Rey semifinal first leg against Atlético Madrid, a match they lost 4–0.
According to Marca, the decision came after internal discussions held the day following the heavy defeat. The club’s legal department drafted a detailed document protesting several key refereeing decisions, including the disallowed goal by Cubarsí early in the second half and what they view as inconsistent disciplinary action—highlighting Eric García’s late red card.
The complaint outlines five main grievances: inconsistency in disciplinary rulings, contradictory interpretations of handball offences, repeated officiating mistakes, the use and clarity of VAR protocols, and the criteria for on-field monitor reviews.
Barcelona have also formally requested the full release of all VAR audio recordings related to the disallowed Cubarsí goal. Additionally, they are urging the federation to establish a code of ethics and disciplinary standards for referees, aiming to ensure greater transparency and fairness in future competitions.
