Tailor-made overall package

After analysis and advice from experts from Fsas Technologies, Fritz Winter decided to set up a new IT infrastructure with components from Fsas and its partner Netapp. “The foundry industry is facing profound changes. Increasing requirements for efficiency, quality and data usage make a modern, digital infrastructure indispensable,” says Santosh Wadwa about the background to the project. Wadwa is Vice President and Head of Platform Business Germany at Fsas Technologies, formerly Fujitsu Technology Solutions.

“The flexibility that we have gained through the uScale model gives us the security of being able to easily cover future requirements,” says Alexander Schwab, Head of IT and Digitalization / CIO at Fritz Winter Eisengiesserei.

The solution package that Fritz Winter uses today includes rack servers from the Primergy RX2540 M7 series and the Infrastructure Manager (ISM) software from Fsas. ISM enables the central management of the IT infrastructure in Fritz Winter’s two data centers. Fsas partner Netapp contributed the Netapp AFF C250 series of all-flash storage systems. When configured as a high availability pair, the maximum storage capacity of the systems is approximately 1.5 petabytes (PB).

The flash storage in Fritz Winter’s data centers is configured as a metro cluster. This means the data is replicated between two locations. This means they are available even if technical problems arise in a data center. The data infrastructure is managed via the Netapp BlueXP platform or its successor Netapp Console. Among other things, it provides AIOps functions, such as analytics using AI and machine learning, to proactively increase performance and security.
