Marsupilami Soars at the French Box Office, Leading a Dynamic Weekend

The French box office experienced a strong weekend, driven by the continued success of Marsupilami and a wave of new releases. Marsupilami demonstrated impressive staying power, achieving a second weekend exceeding its debut, while several new films entered the top 20, contributing to a significant overall increase in admissions.

Marsupilami Continues to Captivate Audiences

Marsupilami attracted an additional 1 million moviegoers (+6%) during its second weekend, averaging 64 admissions per screening. This performance ranks as the ninth-best second weekend for a film in France since 2021, falling between Spider-Man: No Way Home and Le Comte de Monte Cristo. With nearly 2.4 million cumulative tickets sold, Marsupilami is on track to surpass 5 million admissions, a milestone achieved by only two French films since 2021: A little something extra and Le Comte de Monte Cristo.

Strong Starts for New Releases

Seven new releases collectively accumulated 1.16 million admissions across 41,600 screenings, averaging 28 admissions per screening. LOL 2.0 and Children of the Resistance were neck and neck, with 290,000 and 289,000 admissions respectively. Howlwind also performed well, benefiting from Valentine’s Day, with 199,000 tickets sold. GOAT, capitalizing on the All-Star weekend, attracted 142,000 spectators. The Infiltrator secured a second-place start in Pan’s history with 134,000 entries.

Other Notable Performances

Guru continued its strong run, attracting 299,000 spectators for a total of 1.4 million admissions, becoming the biggest success in Yann Gozlan’s career. Several continuing films also showed resilience, with Zootopia 2, Biscuit, the fantastic dog, and The Legendaries demonstrating positive trends. Nuremberg became the biggest success in Nour’s history with 355,000 tickets sold after three weekends.

Overall Box Office Trends

The top 10 films of the weekend achieved 2.66 million admissions, a 26% increase compared to the previous weekend. This represents the second-best post-COVID performance for equivalent weeks, trailing only 2023. The density of the box office was particularly notable, with the 20th film selling 42,000 tickets.
