Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Remake Set to Stream on Disney+ February 21, 2026

Disney’s live-action reimagining of the beloved 2002 animated classic, Lilo & Stitch, will be available to stream on Disney+ starting February 21, 2026. This release date aligns with a recent agreement between Disney+ and French authorities, reducing the theatrical-to-streaming window.

Shorter Wait Times for Disney+ Releases

In January 2025, Disney+ reached an agreement to shorten the period between a film’s theatrical release and its availability on the streaming platform from 17 months to 9 months. This change is linked to increased investment in European film and audiovisual production. Given the film’s theatrical debut in May 2025, Disney+ subscribers will be able to enjoy the live-action Lilo & Stitch on the streaming service in February 2026.

A New Take on a Classic Story

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, known for his Oscar-nominated mockumentary Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, the live-action Lilo & Stitch stars Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis. The story follows Lilo, a lonely Hawaiian girl, who adopts a mischievous alien she names Stitch. Together, they forge an unlikely friendship and learn the meaning of ohana – family.

The live-action Lilo & Stitch has proven to be a commercial success, grossing over $1 billion globally in 2025. In France alone, the film attracted over 5.16 million viewers during its theatrical run, with 1.325 million admissions in its first week. Disney has also announced that a sequel is in development.
