Nioh 3 Surpasses 1 Million Copies Sold, Celebrates Launch with Accolades

BURLINGAME, Calif. – Feb. 19, 2026 – KOEI TECMO America and Team NINJA announced today that Nioh 3, the dark samurai action RPG, has sold over 1 million copies worldwide. This achievement marks the fastest sales milestone in the Nioh franchise’s history. To commemorate this success, KOEI TECMO and Team NINJA have released an accolades trailer showcasing positive media reception to the game. The Nioh franchise as a whole has now reached over 10 million copies sold globally.

A Tale of Shogunate and Yokai

In Nioh 3, players embody Tokugawa Takechiyo, a character destined to become the next shogun during Japan’s Edo period. However, a sinister plot unfolds as Takechiyo’s younger brother, Tokugawa Kunimatsu, consumed by jealousy, seeks to overthrow him. Empowered by a dark force, Kunimatsu unleashes a horde of yokai, plunging Japan into chaos. Guided by the power of the Guardian Spirit Kusanagi, Takechiyo must transcend time to restore peace and claim his rightful place as shogun.

Expansive World and Recent Combat Styles

Nioh 3 features a larger-scale story than previous installments, spanning diverse eras and regions. Players can freely explore environments including Edo Castle, the Totomi region during the Warring States period, Kyoto during the Heian period, and, for the first time in the series, the Bakumatsu period.

The game introduces two distinct combat styles: Samurai and Ninja. Players can seamlessly switch between these styles during battle. The Samurai Style builds upon the foundational combat of previous Nioh titles, incorporating the new Arts Proficiency system to enhance Martial Arts abilities and the Deflect mechanic for precise blocking.

In contrast, the Ninja Style emphasizes agility, allowing for swift dodges, aerial attacks and the utilize of Ninjutsu techniques to strike from a distance. Techniques like Mist, which creates a distracting afterimage, and Evade, for narrowly avoiding attacks, provide tactical advantages.

Editions and Availability

Nioh 3 is currently available on PlayStation®5 and Windows PC via Steam®. Several editions are available, including a Standard Edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition (featuring exclusive in-game items and a Season Pass for two future DLCs), and a physical SteelBook® Launch Edition with a premium metal case.

A special PlayStation 5 physical edition, the Nioh 3 TREASURE BOX, is exclusively available through the NIS America Store. This edition includes the base game, a Scampuss Furball Netsuke Charm Keychain, a Nioh 3 Original Desk Pad, the Official Artbook, and a Nioh 3 Selection Soundtrack CD.
