Bluepoint Games Shut Down by PlayStation Following Project Cancellations
PlayStation has announced the closure of Bluepoint Games, the studio renowned for its critically acclaimed remakes of Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. The decision comes after the cancellation of a live-service God of War project and a broader restructuring within PlayStation Studios.
A Legacy of Remakes and Support Work
Founded in 2006 by former Retro Studios employees, Bluepoint Games quickly established itself as a leading studio in PlayStation’s ecosystem. The studio initially focused on collections and ports of existing games, including the God of War Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. They as well provided support on titles like PlayStation All-Stars, Flower, and Titanfall.
Bluepoint’s reputation soared with the 2018 remake of Shadow of the Colossus and the 2020 remake of Demon’s Souls, both of which were lauded for their stunning visuals and faithful recreation of the original experiences. Sony acquired Bluepoint Games in 2021 IGN.
Shift to Live Service and Subsequent Closure
Following the acquisition, Bluepoint Games began development on a live-service God of War title. Though, this project was canceled in January 2025 IGN. The studio spent the subsequent year pitching new projects, but Sony decided to shutter the studio before a new project could gain traction.
According to a statement from a PlayStation spokesperson, “Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship.” IGN

The closure of Bluepoint Games will impact approximately 70 employees IGN. This decision follows a recent trend of restructuring within PlayStation Studios, including the closure of Firewalk Studios and Neon Koi The Verge. PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst cited a “challenging industry environment” as a contributing factor to the closure Metro.
The shutdown has sparked disappointment among fans who had hoped to see Bluepoint Games tackle further remakes of classic PlayStation titles, such as Bloodborne Kotaku.

PlayStation maintains a “robust roadmap for fiscal year 26” and remains committed to delivering “unforgettable experiences for players” Metro.
