Elon Phoenix Men’s Golf Adds Will Cherry to Program
ELON, NC – The Elon University men’s golf program has signed Will Cherry, a standout from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, for the 2026-27 season. The addition was announced by Elon head coach Don Hill .
Cherry’s Accomplishments
Cherry joins the Phoenix with a strong junior golf resume, highlighted by his contributions to New Hanover High School’s success.
- Runner-up finish at the 2024 North Carolina State Championship with New Hanover High School.
- Three consecutive MEC (Mideastern Conference) titles with New Hanover from 2023-2025.
- Three-time MEC First Team selection, earning MEC Player of the Year honors in 2023.
- Top-10 individual finish at the 2024 North Carolina State Championship.
- Qualified for the 2026 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball.
Coach Hill on Cherry
“We are thrilled Will Cherry has joined the Elon Golf program,” said Coach Don Hill. “An accomplished junior golfer, Will possesses the talent, drive and work ethic to be successful at the collegiate level. We expect Will to be a large part of our success moving forward.”
Cherry’s Family Background
Will’s father, Bob Cherry, played golf at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1998-2003.
