Jaaukanigás Ramsar Site Poised for Tourism Growth with Novel Marketing Strategy
Avellaneda, Santa Fe, Argentina – February 23, 2026 – The Jaaukanigás Ramsar Site, a 492,000-hectare wetland in the General Obligado Department of Santa Fe Province, is set to benefit from a new marketing strategy aimed at boosting tourism development. The initiative was discussed during a recent meeting of the Ramsar Site Management Committee, the first tourism-focused meeting in the northern zone, chaired by director Samuel Sager.
The meeting stemmed from a previous discussion between the Jaaukanigás region and Pueblos Forestales, which led to a request for provincial involvement. Sager presented a plan based on the Province of Santa Fe’s Marketing Plan report for 2026, developed through workshops involving localities from across the region. This analysis identified both strengths and weaknesses within the territory, forming the basis for a proposed work plan.
Participants in the meeting included representatives from Florencia, Las Toscas, Tacuarendí, Villa Ocampo, and Avellaneda, as well as deputy Charo Mancini and staff from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
The Marketing Plan positions the Jaaukanigás region as a promising destination for tourism development, following Santa Fe and Rosario as key areas within the province. Sager emphasized the site’s potential to attract international visitors, highlighting the need for increased training and financing to improve services and benefits.
Connectivity, particularly air travel, was identified as a key weakness, alongside accessibility issues related to road infrastructure. Addressing these shortcomings will require both provincial and national policy adjustments.
The committee established a work plan to be integrated into their regular meetings, held every two to three months. Additional virtual meetings will be scheduled during off-months to maintain momentum.
Looking ahead, plans include sector-specific training and expanded marketing efforts. The region is already collaborating with agencies in Santa Fe and Rosario and will soon partner with an agency in Buenos Aires. Further expansion to include other provinces is also under consideration. The next meeting is scheduled for March to focus on training initiatives and agency partnerships.
