“Hör mal, wer da hämmert” Star Zachery Ty Bryan Sentenced to Prison
Zachery Ty Bryan, best known for his role as Brad Taylor in the sitcom “Hör mal, wer da hämmert” (Home Improvement), has been sentenced to 16 months in prison. The 44-year-vintage actor pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in California, according to reports from t-online.de and RTL.
Repeated Legal Issues
This sentencing is not Bryan’s first encounter with the law. He has a history of arrests related to alcohol and domestic disturbances. In February 2024, he was arrested for driving under the influence in California, exhibiting signs of impairment during a traffic stop. A subsequent arrest occurred in Oklahoma in October of the same year, t-online.de reported.
Prior Legal Battles
Bryan admitted to consuming “too much” alcohol during the October arrest and acknowledged his expired driver’s license was a result of previous alcohol-related offenses. The California court denied probation, but credited him with 57 days of time already served in jail.
In October 2023, Bryan pleaded guilty to domestic violence and received 36 months of probation and a seven-day jail sentence. Bunte reports that in late November 2025, he was again taken into custody for violating his probation. Reports from Bunte indicate his fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, allegedly attempted to run him over with a vehicle even as their three children were present, resulting in Cartwright and the children ending up in a ditch.
Early Career
Zachery Ty Bryan gained prominence through his role as Brad Taylor in all eight seasons of “Hör mal, wer da hämmert,” alongside Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson. He later appeared in series such as “Der Prinz von Bel-Air” (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), “Boston Public,” and “Veronica Mars,” and had a role in the 2006 film “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.”
