Far-Right Transatlantic Alliance Gains Momentum with Trump’s Continued Influence

A growing alliance between far-right political movements in Europe and the Americas, bolstered by continued support from Donald Trump, is gaining traction. This transatlantic network, focused on shared ideological ground, aims to challenge the existing liberal consensus and reshape the global political landscape.

Kast’s Pledge of Allegiance and the Transatlantic Summit

Chile’s president-elect, José Antonio Kast, recently pledged allegiance to Donald Trump’s White House during a speech at the European Parliament on February 3, 2026. Kast emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the USA and Europe, highlighting years of collaboration and shared political goals. He spoke to an audience of hundreds, including politicians, advisors, and political influencers.

This pledge occurred at the seventh annual Transatlantic Summit hosted by the Political Network for Values (PNfV) in Brussels. The summit brought together representatives from over 35 countries, spanning the Americas, Africa, and Europe, representing the European Conservatives and Reformists Party (ECR), Patriots for Europe (PfE), and the European People’s Party (EPP).

A Global Wave of Autocratisation

The rise of far-right movements is part of a broader trend towards autocratisation globally. According to a report by the Swedish University of Gothenburg’s V-DEM Institute, the world now has 88 democracies compared to 91 autocracies. This represents a significant shift in the global political balance, with nearly three-quarters of humanity now living under autocratic regimes.

Key Players and Ideological Alignment

The movement draws support from various leaders, including Hungary’s Viktor Orbán and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, who have consolidated power in their respective countries. Brazil’s former minister of foreign affairs, Ernesto Araújo, echoed Kast’s call for closer collaboration with the US, framing the effort as a “transnational fight.”

These leaders often promote a similar political platform characterized by populist anger, anti-immigrant sentiment, and conservative stances on social issues like abortion and LGBTQ+ rights. The influence of Donald Trump is seen as a key factor in “turbo-charging” this far-right surge.
