Orlando Valkyries Fall to Columbus Fury in Home Game
The Orlando Valkyries suffered a 3-1 defeat against the Columbus Fury on Sunday evening, marking their fifth home loss of the season. The match, held at Addition Financial Arena, featured a competitive start but ultimately saw the Fury dominate.
Competitive First Sets
The first two sets were closely contested, with both teams showcasing strong defensive plays and offensive attacks. The Fury edged out the Valkyries with scores of 29-27 and 28-26, keeping fans engaged with high-scoring rallies.
Valkyries Secure Third Set
Orlando rallied to win the third set 25-18, thanks to a strong start led by middle blocker Kaz Brown. Brown’s momentum translated into three consecutive points for the Valkyries. Opposite hitter Naya Shime contributed significantly with 13 kills, 10 digs, and one block, including a crucial shoulder save to extend a lead to 19-14.
Fury Closes Out the Match
The fourth set concluded with a 25-17 victory for the Columbus Fury. Outside hitter Raina Terry set the pace with three consecutive attacks, giving the Fury an early advantage. Middle blocker Regan Pittman-Nelson and Terry continued to play key roles, securing the win for Columbus.
Team Performance
Bre Kelley, a middle blocker for the Valkyries, maintained consistency with a .478 hitting efficiency, recording 12 kills and one block. However, the Valkyries overall recorded a .160 hitting efficiency, their third-worst of the season, trailing only the .100 and .160 efficiencies registered in previous losses against the Indy Ignite.
