Beverly Peterson, Longtime Callender Resident, Dies at 90

Beverly A. Peterson, 90, of Callender, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Marian Home. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Callender, with burial to follow at the Callender Cemetery.

Visitation Details

A visitation for Beverly Peterson will be held today, Friday, February 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. To 7:00 p.m. At Laufersweiler Funeral Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Life and Legacy

Born Beverly Ann Lowry on September 20, 1935, northwest of Callender, Iowa, she was the daughter of Kelly and Viola (Evanson) Lowry. Beverly graduated from Callender High School and later attended Tobin Business College. On April 9, 1960, she married Richard Peterson at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, and together they made Callender their home for 65 years.

Beverly began her career at S&M Finance before dedicating herself to raising her family. Later, she returned to the workforce at Somer’s Saving Bank, where she eventually retired in 1995. She was known for her love of baking, hosting gatherings, and spending time with friends and family.

A lifetime member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Beverly was also actively involved in women’s church groups.

Family

Beverly is survived by her husband, Richard Peterson; daughters, Anne (Keel) Zinnel of Humboldt, Susan (Scott) Licht of Huxley, and Cindy (Robert Jr.) Ayala of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Curt (Jaime) Zinnel, Mike (Ashly) Zinnel, Miranda (Cody) Maggard, Emma (Kris) Davis, Lauren (Camden) Glenn, Kristin Vogel, Josephine (Christian) Klemp, and Ian Ayala; 13 great-grandchildren, with another great-granddaughter on the way; sister-in-law, Lois Lowry; and brother-in-law, Brian Larson.

Preceded in Death

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly and Viola Lowry; granddaughter, Kerry Jo Vogel; and siblings, Maxine Dorsey, Kalcie Lowry, Leone Bryson, Wayne Lowry, Eugene Lowry, Vivian Hanson, and Kay Nerhus-Larson.
