Increased Security in Los Angeles Following U.S. Airstrikes on Iran

Los Angeles law enforcement agencies have increased patrols in response to recent U.S. And Israeli airstrikes against Iran, though officials state there are currently no credible threats to Southern California. The heightened security measures are a precautionary step to ensure community safety, particularly around places of worship and community spaces.

Heightened Patrols and Monitoring

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) are increasing their visible presence throughout the city. LASD announced the increased patrols on February 28, 2026, focusing on areas of potential concern. LAPD is as well bolstering its presence across the city, according to Mayor Karen Bass.

Mayor Bass, the LASD and California Governor Gavin Newsom are actively monitoring for any potential threats to the region and state. The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services has stated that, as of February 28, 2026, no credible threats have been detected within California. Police are providing extra security at local places of worship and other sensitive areas.

Protests and Demonstrations

The increased security coincides with planned and ongoing protests in Los Angeles. Demonstrations both in support of and in opposition to the U.S. Actions in Iran have taken place.

On Saturday, February 29, 2026, protesters gathered in Westwood to celebrate what organizers described as “the fall of the Ayotollah,” while others protested the strikes in downtown Los Angeles. A “Solidarity with the People of Iran” rally drew approximately 4,000 demonstrators on Sunday, March 1, 2026, near Los Angeles City Hall. The rally was peaceful, and no arrests were made.

A coalition of organizations, including the Democratic Socialists of America, the National Iranian American Council, and American Muslims for Palestine, organized a “national day of action” at City Hall, scheduled for 2 p.m. On Saturday.

Recent Events

The increased security measures follow a U.S. And Israeli airstrike against Iran on Saturday, February 28, 2026, which Iranian state media reported killed at least 200 people and injured over 700. President Donald Trump stated he believes reports of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the attack are “correct.” Iran subsequently launched retaliatory missiles and drones toward U.S. Military bases and Israel.

Ongoing Monitoring

Authorities will continue to monitor events and prepare for additional gatherings in the coming days. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
