Ringo Starr Announces Modern Album ‘Long Long Road’ with Sheryl Crow, Billy Strings and St. Vincent

Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr is set to release his 22nd solo studio album, Long Long Road, on April 24th. The 10-track record features collaborations with a diverse range of artists, including Sheryl Crow, Billy Strings, and St. Vincent, continuing Starr’s tradition of assembling impressive guest lineups.

A Follow-Up to ‘Look Up’

Long Long Road arrives just over a year after Starr’s previous album, Look Up, which also showcased contributions from artists like Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle. Both albums were produced by the acclaimed T Bone Burnett, a collaboration Starr deeply values. “I’m blessed to have T Bone in my life right now and working with me on these records,” Starr stated in a press release. “After we did the last record, which I love listening to, this one just sort of happened.”

New Single and Musical Influences

The album’s first single, “It’s Been Too Long,” was released on Tuesday, March 3rd, and features backing vocals from Molly Tuttle and Sarah Jarosz. The track blends country influences with elements of psychedelia and early rock & roll. Starr also revealed that the album includes a cover of the Carl Perkins song “I Don’t See Me In Your Eyes Anymore,” a nod to his earlier function with The Beatles, where he recorded two Perkins songs. Spin.com reports Starr said he and Burnett specifically sought out a track by Perkins for the album.

Recording and Production Details

Long Long Road was recorded in both Nashville and Los Angeles, utilizing many of the same musicians who contributed to Look Up. These include Paul Franklin, David Mansfield, Dennis Crouch, Daniel Tashian, Rory Hoffman, Patrick Warren, and Colin Linden. Burnett described Starr as “a recording artist of the highest caliber” and emphasized his desire to surround him with “young masters” from the Nashville music scene to bring fresh energy to the recordings. The Pier details Burnett’s comments on the collaborative process.

Ringo Starr’s Continued Career
