Czech Hockey Players See Mixed Results in NHL Action
Several Czech players had varying degrees of success in NHL games on Tuesday and Wednesday, with Tomáš Nosek making his long-awaited return to the Florida Panthers lineup. Meanwhile, Martin Nečas and Pavel Zacha similarly contributed for their respective teams, even as Karel Vejmelka secured a win for his team.
Nosek Returns After Knee Surgery
Tomáš Nosek played his first game of the NHL season for the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, after recovering from offseason knee surgery. He had been sidelined since Game 6 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final, undergoing surgery for the injury sustained during training. The 33-year-old center led the fourth line in a game against the New Jersey Devils, recording two hits and a blocked shot in the first ten minutes of play. Despite his return, the Panthers lost to the Devils 1-5.
Nosek won the Stanley Cup with the Panthers in 2025 after signing a one-year contract with the team on July 1, 2024. His absence this season also meant he missed participation in the Olympics.
Nečas Shines in Colorado Victory
Martin Nečas scored a goal for the Colorado Avalanche in their 5-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Nečas scored during a power play in the 15th minute, marking his tenth point in the five games following the Olympic break (5 goals and 5 assists). Parker Kelly added two goals for Colorado, while Lukáš Dostál, the Ducks’ goaltender, saved 21 of 26 shots.
Zacha Contributes to Bruins Win
Pavel Zacha recorded an assist for the Boston Bruins in their 2-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins. All of Boston’s goals were scored within the first six minutes of the game. Zacha’s assist helped Nikita Zadorov score, with the goal being redirected into the net by Casey Mittelstadt.
Vejmelka Leads Utah to Victory
Karel Vejmelka made 23 saves to help his team secure a 3-2 win against the Washington Capitals.
Klapka Assists in Calgary Loss
Adam Klapka assisted on Calgary’s only goal, but the Flames ultimately lost 1-6 to the Dallas Stars at home.
Panthers’ Playoff Hopes Dim
The Florida Panthers, despite Nosek’s return, are struggling to secure a playoff spot. They are currently last in the Atlantic Division and ten points behind the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With approximately twenty games remaining in the regular season, their chances are dwindling.
