Iranian Ambassador to Bulgaria Reaffirms Friendly Ties, Addresses Geopolitical Concerns

Sofia, Bulgaria – Ali Reza Irvash, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Bulgaria, has reiterated Iran’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Bulgaria, dismissing any notion of hostility. The statements come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and concerns about regional stability.

Statements on Bulgaria-Iran Relations

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ambassador Irvash emphasized that “All our efforts are in the direction of deepening our friendship with Bulgaria.” He asserted that the Iranian people harbor no ill will towards Bulgarians, stating, “To the extent that there are concerns and worries among people in Bulgaria, I can tell you that the Iranian people do not in the least think hostile towards the Bulgarians.”

The ambassador characterized fears of Iranian aggression as a tactic employed by adversaries seeking to create division, saying, “Instilling fear in the hearts of the Bulgarian people is a weapon that our enemies use to divide us.”

Addressing Concerns About Regional Conflict

When questioned about the possibility of errant Iranian missiles targeting Bulgaria, Ambassador Irvash acknowledged his inability to predict the future but stated that those conducting military operations in Iran are working to prevent such incidents. He also called for the removal of American aircraft from Sofia, suggesting that Bulgaria should leverage its position in the international community to advocate for peace.

Condolences Following Supreme Leader’s Death

Recently, Kolyo Paramov, an advisor to the parliamentary group of the Velichie Political Party, conveyed heartfelt condolences to Ambassador Ali Reza Irvash following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. During the meeting on March 5, 2026, Paramov highlighted the “grave geopolitical situation,” referencing a tragedy involving the deaths of over 150 schoolgirls as a deeply concerning event.

Ambassador Irvash reportedly welcomed the gesture of solidarity from Bulgaria, describing it as one of the first official political expressions of support received. Paramov noted that the ambassador “received this first political gesture from Bulgaria most warmly, along with our sincere condolences.”
