Wando County, South Jeolla Province, South Korea, is solidifying its position as a leading healing tourism destination with the launch of a “Long-Term Marine Healing Program” in April. The program aims to provide customized healing journeys focused on physical and mental recovery, utilizing the region’s marine environment, forests, and islands.

A Comprehensive Healing Experience

The program utilizes Wando Island as a holistic healing space, offering a range of activities including marine healing, marine climate healing, forest therapy, island tours, and abalone harvesting. Participants will also enjoy a healing diet featuring local specialties. Itineraries range from one night and two days to a maximum of five nights and six days, prioritizing recovery over traditional tourism.

Specialized Programs Cater to Diverse Needs

A key feature of the program is its themed, three-day, two-night offerings. These include retreats focused on barefoot walking and camping, family-specific programs, burnout recovery, and healing through food. Customized programs are also available for individuals seeking health management related to stress, depression, sleep disorders, and musculoskeletal or metabolic diseases.

Financial Accessibility and Scientific Validation

Wando County is committed to making the program accessible by subsidizing between 30% and 70% of program costs. This support aims to encourage participation from a broad demographic, including middle-aged and older adults, patients, and families.

To ensure program effectiveness, Wando County will conduct scientific verification of healing effects. Participants’ health status, psychological indicators, and biometric data will be measured before and after the program. This data will be used to establish standardized operational procedures and develop new tourism products.
