Home of the Year Returns with a Tribute to Hugh Wallace
Series 12 of Home of the Year has returned to Irish screens, showcasing a diverse range of homes across Ireland and serving as a poignant tribute to the late judge, Hugh Wallace.
A Bittersweet Season
The current season of the long-running RTÉ One show features the final episodes with judge Hugh Wallace, who passed away in December 2025 at the age of 68. Fellow judge Siobhán Lam described the season as “exceptionally bittersweet,” noting that while excitement surrounds the new homes, there’s a constant awareness that it’s Wallace’s last series. According to Lam, the production team viewed the season as a tribute to Wallace and his passion for the show. RTÉ reports that Wallace adored his television function and truly shone on screen.
How the Competition Works
Each week, the judges evaluate three homes, scoring them out of 10 based on individuality, functionality, and clever design. The home receiving the highest combined score in each episode advances to the grand final in April, where one homeowner will be crowned the winner.

Esther and Robyn purchased their Dublin home in 2019 after it had been vacant for some time. Their renovation unfolded in two phases: first, restoring the home to its core structure and achieving an A2 BER Rating, and second, adding a two-story steel-clad extension. The resulting design blends traditional and contemporary elements, creating a comfortable yet opulent space. The couple prioritized timeless design choices, aiming for a home they would continue to love for decades to come.
Kate and Ross, Cork
Kate and Ross, along with their three daughters, reside in a new build detached home in County Cork. Kate’s design sensibilities lean towards natural materials, neutral colors, and maximizing natural light, drawing inspiration from modern and Scandinavian interior styling. The home features white and organic hues, complemented by light woods and white walls to create a bright and airy atmosphere.
