It quickly amassed a user base, claiming over 1.5 million AI agent users, 110,000 posts, and 500,000 comments by February 2, 2026.

Moltbook was built upon OpenClaw, an AI project initially known as Clawdbot and Moltbot. OpenClaw gained viral popularity for its agents’ ability to autonomously complete tasks on users’ operating systems, such as managing calendars, sending emails, and online shopping. This capability pushed AI agents into the mainstream, alongside large language models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Meta’s Strategic Move
The acquisition of Moltbook and the integration of Schlicht and Parr into Meta Superintelligence Labs, led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang, underscores Meta’s commitment to advancing its AI capabilities. A Meta spokesperson stated that the Moltbook team’s approach to connecting agents through an always-on directory represents a novel step in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
