Victim of 25-Year Captivity Faces Continued Trauma, Court Hears

Gloucester, UK – Mandy Wixon, 56, was found guilty of keeping a vulnerable woman, known in court as “K,” captive for 25 years and subjecting her to years of abuse. Recent court testimony has revealed the enduring psychological trauma experienced by the victim, even after her rescue in 2021.

Years of Abuse Unveiled

Wixon, a mother of 10 from Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, took K into her home in 1997 when K was approximately 16 years old, having a loose connection to her family. For over two decades, Wixon subjected K to horrific abuse, including physical violence and forced labor. The victim was forced to live off scraps, regularly beaten and hit with a broom handle, resulting in the loss of many of her teeth due to poor dental hygiene . She was also reportedly forced to wash at night in secret and was not allowed to leave the house.

Psychological Scars Remain

During sentencing remarks at Gloucester Crown Court, the judge highlighted the “cruel and persistent” nature of Wixon’s captivity and the “deep psychological damage” inflicted upon K . Prosecutor Jones detailed how K continues to suffer from nightmares years after being removed from Wixon’s home.

Rehabilitation Challenges

Testimony from K’s foster mother revealed the extent of the victim’s struggles to reintegrate into society. Initially, K lacked basic life skills, such as knowing how to cross a road or dress appropriately for the weather . She also struggled with the concept of not needing permission to ask for food and felt compelled to constantly clean, a behavior deeply ingrained by her years of captivity.

Hope for the Future

Despite the ongoing trauma, K’s foster mother expressed optimism about her future, believing she will thrive once the legal proceedings are concluded . Wixon was found guilty of six charges, including compulsory labour, false imprisonment, and assault and is awaiting sentencing.
