Anthropic’s Claude Now Creates Interactive Charts and Visualizations
Anthropic has updated its Claude AI assistant to generate interactive charts, diagrams, and visualizations directly within the chat interface. This new capability, currently in beta for all users across all plan types, aims to enhance understanding by providing visual aids alongside textual explanations. Anthropic announced the feature on February 5, 2026.
How the Feature Works
Claude can create visualizations either when prompted directly by the user or proactively when the model determines a graphic would best illustrate a concept. The generated visuals are designed to be ephemeral, changing as the conversation evolves, and are distinct from Claude’s document creation features – they won’t appear in the Artifacts drawer.
A key example provided by Anthropic involves explaining compound interest. Claude generates an interactive chart comparable to those found through a Google search, but without advertisements or intrusive elements.
Accuracy and Performance
Even as generally accurate, the feature isn’t without its limitations. Testing revealed occasional errors, such as mislabeling elements in a diagram of airport approach procedures. Anthropic acknowledges that Claude isn’t perfect and is still under development.
Another consideration is the time required to generate these visuals. The creation process can capture up to half a minute, which may be slower than a traditional image search.
Evolution of Graphical Capabilities
This update builds upon Claude’s recent integration of pre-set graphical designs for topics like recipes and weather forecasts. The new feature expands on this by enabling Claude to create custom visuals on demand.
Competition in the AI Landscape
Anthropic’s move places it in direct competition with other leading AI labs. OpenAI launched “dynamic visual explanations” in ChatGPT, focusing on math and science education. Google’s Gemini Ultra subscribers ($200/month) have access to interactive charts and simulations since December 2025. However, Anthropic distinguishes itself by making interactive charts available to all users, whereas Google’s offering is a premium feature. Google Cloud offers Claude models on Vertex AI.
Availability and Pricing
The interactive chart feature is currently available in beta to all Claude users. Claude Opus 4.6, Anthropic’s most capable model, is available on Claude for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users, and through the Claude Platform, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud’s Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry. Pricing for Opus 4.6 starts at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, with potential cost savings through prompt caching and batch processing.
