Netflix has officially greenlit a sequel to its hit animated film, KPop Demon Hunters, following the success of the original released in June 2025. The film, which blends Korean mythology with the vibrant world of K-pop, captivated audiences worldwide and became Netflix’s most popular movie of all time, amassing over 325 million views in its first 91 days according to Netflix’s Tudum website.

The Story Behind the Phenomenon

KPop Demon Hunters centers around Huntr/X, a K-pop group with a secret identity: protecting their fans from supernatural threats, including a rival band and demons in disguise known as the Saja Boys. The film stars Ken Jeong, Daniel Dae Kim, and features the vocal talents of Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami as the members of Huntr/X .

Creative Team Returns

Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the directing duo behind the original, will return to helm the sequel. Maggie Kang’s Journey

Maggie Kang’s path to directing KPop Demon Hunters began in Seoul, South Korea, before immigrating to Toronto at age five. Her father’s love of film and her own passion for K-pop heavily influenced her career in animation. Kang studied classical animation at Sheridan College and gained experience at DreamWorks Animation and Warner Animation Group before taking on the directorial role .
