Fargo Dentist and Pilot Arlo Neumiller Dies at 86

Arlo Dean Neumiller, 86, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away at the HIA Heather’s House in Fargo on March 10, 2026. A longtime dentist and avid pilot, Neumiller’s life exemplified a commitment to both professional achievement and personal fulfillment.

Early Life and Education

Born in Fargo on February 6, 1940, Neumiller was raised by his grandparents, Christ and Mathilda Neumiller, in Sykeston, North Dakota, after the passing of his mother, Lydia Mise. He graduated from Sykeston school in 1958 and subsequently served in the Army from November 1958 to October 1960.

Neumiller pursued higher education at North Dakota State University (NDSU), majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry, before attending Marquette Dental School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Dental Career

After graduating from dental school, Neumiller opened a practice in Cooperstown, North Dakota, in 1969. He later expanded his practice to Fargo, opening Agassiz Dental, and continued to work in both locations until his retirement on March 29, 2013.

Aviation and Hobbies

Neumiller was a passionate pilot and co-owned a Piper Arrow airplane, frequently using it for fishing trips to Canada with friends. Beyond flying, he enjoyed golfing, gardening – particularly cultivating wildflowers – woodworking, photography, and building model airplanes, creating over 20 models in recent years.

Family and Legacy

Neumiller married Sonja Skadberg in 1962 and together they had two children: Joel and Tanya. He is survived by his son, Joel Neumiller of Bismarck, ND, and his daughter, Tanya Lunde of Kindred, ND; five grandchildren – Alex, Ilsa, Elena, Sydney and Colin – and two great-grandchildren, Runa and Gwyn.

Service Information

A service and celebration of Neumiller’s life will be held on Saturday, March 21st, 2026, at Evans Funeral Home in Carrington, ND, at 1:00 pm. A burial at the Carrington Cemetery and a gathering will be held on Friday, June 19th.
