Ella Halvarsson’s Struggles Continue at Biathlon World Cup
Borlänge, Sweden – Swedish biathlete Ella Halvarsson is facing a challenging season, expressing deep disappointment after finishing 70th in the sprint race on Friday, effectively ending her chances in the pursuit event. The 26-year-old struggled with three penalty laps and a running time placing her 64th, marking another setback in a season that hasn’t lived up to expectations.
Emotional Response After Disappointing Performance
Visibly upset after the race, Halvarsson shared her frustration with Swedish television station SVT. “I’m terribly disappointed. It’s hard. I can’t settle. Today everything was bad,” she stated, fighting back tears. The athlete experienced a breakthrough season last year but has been unable to replicate that success this year.
Season of Ups and Downs
Halvarsson began the season promisingly, even achieving a top-ten finish. But, her performance declined sharply following the Ruhpolding competition. Since then, she has only once finished within the top forty, achieving 21st place in a mass start race in Kontiolahti.
“I felt strong before Christmas but now it’s despair. You hope for a good race but it’s one large disappointment after another,” she lamented to SVT.
Swedish Results and Race Winners
Despite Halvarsson’s struggles, Elvira Öberg was the top-performing Swede in the sprint, finishing eighth. Tereza Voborníková of the Czech Republic secured seventh place, just two-tenths of a second behind Öberg. The race was won by Julia Simon of France, followed by Lisa Vittozzi of Italy, and Lou Jeanmonnot, also from France, taking third place.
