Sheffield Lake Recreation Launches Zumba Fitness Classes

Residents of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, now have a new option for staying active with the launch of Zumba fitness classes at the Sheffield Lake Community Center. The program, designed to expand recreational opportunities for all ages, will run for four weeks beginning March 18, 2026.

Program Details

The Zumba classes will be held at the Sheffield Lake Community Center, located at 4575 E. Lake Road, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. On the following dates:

  • March 18
  • March 25
  • April 1
  • April 8

Affordable Access to Fitness

The Sheffield Lake Recreation Department is offering the first two sessions of the Zumba classes free of charge to encourage participation. Following the initial free sessions, the cost will be $7 per class. Participants who attend all four weeks will pay a total of $14.

What is Zumba?

Zumba is a dance-based fitness program that combines upbeat music with simple choreography. It’s designed to be a high-energy workout that improves cardiovascular health and keeps participants engaged. According to City Recreation Director Scott Pederson, the class is “more Latin-inspired music and high-energy dance fitness” that “combines fast and slow rhythms to create a cardio-based workout.”

Expanding Recreation Opportunities

City Recreation Director Scott Pederson highlighted the department’s commitment to expanding recreational offerings. “We haven’t done fitness classes here before and with the growth of the recreation department we’re looking for different things to offer the community,” Pederson said. The program was initiated at the request of an instructor who wanted to bring a fun, active outlet to the community.

Open to All Levels

The Zumba classes, led by instructor Stephanie Reyna, are open to participants of all experience levels. The recreation department anticipates around 15 to 20 regular attendees, though the community center has the capacity to accommodate larger groups.

Future Programs

Beyond Zumba, the Sheffield Lake Recreation Department is planning additional activities for residents, including a walking club scheduled to begin in May. The department aims to improve the quality of life and health within the community by providing diverse physical outlets for people of all ages. The Zumba program will serve as a trial run to evaluate future programming options.

Registration

Interested residents can register for the Zumba classes through the city’s online sign-up form. More information can be found on the Morning Journal website.
