Anvisa Strengthens Cooperation with China on Healthcare Technology and Innovation
The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) of Brazil is currently participating in a mission to the People’s Republic of China, aiming to bolster bilateral cooperation, particularly in the transfer of healthcare technology to Brazil. The initiative, running until March 19, 2026, focuses on medical devices, medicines, and blood products.
Focus on Technology Transfer and Collaboration
Director Daniela Marreco is representing Anvisa during the visit, which includes tours of companies specializing in the manufacture of medical devices, medicines, and blood products. The delegation will also explore innovative healthcare facilities, such as “smart hospitals,” and engage in discussions regarding potential collaborative efforts between Brazil and China. Daniela Marreco Cerqueira currently holds the position of Deputy Director for Director Alex Campos, in the Third Board of Anvisa.
Recent Agreements and Digitalization Efforts
This mission follows a recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in October 2025 between Gan & Lee Pharmaceuticals and Fiocruz, a public institution under the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The agreement, witnessed by the Brazilian Ministry of Health and with the participation of Ambassador Daniela Marreco Cerqueira, aims to explore new avenues for cooperation in innovative drug development and introduction into Brazil’s public health system. Gan & Lee hosted a dialogue and exchange meeting in Beijing with the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
Domestically, Anvisa has also been focused on modernizing healthcare through digitalization. In December 2025, the agency approved electronic prescriptions for controlled medications, a move expected to combat fraud and improve access to essential drugs. The new system will be fully integrated into the healthcare ecosystem by June 1, 2026.
Anvisa Leadership
Currently, Daniela Marreco Cerqueira serves as the specialist in health surveillance at Anvisa, with a background in Biological Sciences and Molecular Biology from the University of Brasilia, and a specialization in Health Surveillance from FIOCRUZ.
