Idris Elba Returns as Luther for Comic Relief’s ‘The Bank Job’

Idris Elba is reprising his iconic role as DCI John Luther in an exclusive sketch for Comic Relief’s Funny for Money, titled ‘The Bank Job.’ The sketch, airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 7pm, will also be live-streamed on the BBC YouTube channel for the first time.

A Star-Studded Heist

Joining Elba are Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, alongside a cast of celebrities including Chris McCausland, Stephen Mulhern, Shona McGarty, Niko Omilana, Gladiator’s Sabre, and Natalie Cassidy. The premise centers around a comedic heist, raising money for a good cause.

Supporting a Vital Cause

Comic Relief’s Funny for Money aims to raise funds to provide essential resources such as food, shelter, and safety to those in demand. The organization encourages public involvement through donations and fundraising initiatives. Simple acts of support can make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals.

Previous Appearances and Background

This isn’t the first time Elba has revisited the character of Luther for charity. In 2016, he appeared in a parody episode of the series for Sport Relief, alongside stars like Ruth Wilson, Lenny Henry, and Usain Bolt [IMDb]. That sketch was directed by Destiny Ekaragha.

How to Get Involved

Red Nose Day offers various ways to participate, including donating or fundraising. Further information on how to contribute and order a fundraising pack can be found on the Red Nose Day website.
