BYU Cougars Women’s Basketball Advances to 2026 WBIT

The Brigham Young University (BYU) Cougars women’s basketball team has been selected to participate in the 2026 Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT). BYU is one of 32 teams competing in the tournament and will face Alabama A&M in the first round.

WBIT Tournament Details

The 2026 WBIT field was announced on March 15, 2026, by the WBIT selection committee. NCAA.com reports that North Dakota State, Utah, and Texas A&M are also highlighted as top teams in the tournament.

First-round games are scheduled for Thursday, March 19, with second-round games taking place on March 22, and the quarterfinals on March 26. The semifinals will be held on March 30, and the championship game on April 1 in Wichita, Kansas, at Charles Koch Arena.

BYU’s Recent Performance

BYU concluded its regular season with a 70-52 victory over Utah on March 5, 2026. ESPN reports recent scores include a 76-66 win against Houston on March 4, 2026, and an 83-69 victory over Iowa State on February 11, 2026. The team faced a 67-76 loss to Cincinnati on February 18, 2026.

About the WBIT

This is the third annual WBIT. In 2025, Minnesota defeated Belmont to win the championship, and in 2024, Illinois defeated Villanova. This year’s tournament features 23 schools making their first-ever appearance, representing 20 different conferences. Nine teams from the 2025 WBIT were also selected for the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.
