Peugeot’s New ‘Turbo 100’ Engine: A Leap Forward for ICE Efficiency and Reliability

Peugeot has introduced its new “Turbo 100” petrol engine, designed to enhance driving pleasure and address previous reliability concerns with its PureTech predecessors. The engine will be available on the PEUGEOT 208 starting in March 2026, and on the PEUGEOT 2008 from May 2026, and will also be rolled out across other Stellantis models as they transition to meet Euro 7 emission regulations.

Addressing Past Issues with PureTech

The new engine is a response to issues experienced with Peugeot’s earlier PureTech engines, particularly problems related to the oil bath distribution system. These issues stemmed from fuel contaminating the engine oil, leading to damage to key components. The Turbo 100 aims to eliminate these problems through a comprehensive overhaul of the engine’s design.

Key Features of the Turbo 100

The Turbo 100 incorporates approximately 70% new components, including a timing chain, turbocharger, injection system, pistons, and cylinder block. Key features include:

• Variable-Geometry Turbocharger: Provides dynamic pick-up and acceleration, even at low engine speeds.
• High-Pressure Direct Injection: A new system operating at 350 bar improves efficiency.
• Timing Chain: Replaces the previous timing belt design, enhancing reliability and extending maintenance intervals.
• Miller Cycle: Improves fuel consumption and emission control.

Performance Specifications

The 1,199 cm³ three-cylinder Turbo 100 engine delivers a maximum output of 101 hp (74 kW) at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 205 Nm from 1,750 rpm. It achieves an average fuel consumption of 5.1-5.2 l/100 km and emissions of 116-117 g/km.

Extended Maintenance Intervals and Warranty

Peugeot has extended maintenance intervals to every two years or 25,000 km, with an additional annual check. The Turbo 100 engine is guaranteed for 8 years or 160,000 km.
