Imants Kalniņš to be Celebrated with 85th Birthday Concert in Liepāja
Latvian composer Imants Kalniņš will celebrate his 85th birthday on May 26, 2026, with a special anniversary concert, “Imantam Kalniņam – 85. Virs galvas mūžīgs piena ceļš” (Imants Kalniņš – 85. Overhead Eternal Milk Road), held at the Liepāja Concert Hall “Lielais dzintars” on May 30, 2026.
A Musical Journey Through Kalniņš’s Function
The concert will feature performances by a diverse group of artists who have been closely associated with Kalniņš’s music throughout his career. These include the groups “Turaidas roze,” “Autobuss debesīs,” “Raxtu Raxti,” and “Menuets,” as well as musician Jānis Strazdiņš, actor Artūrs Skrastiņš, and singer Aleksandra Špicberga .
The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Andris Veismanis, will also participate. The concert promises an emotional exploration of Kalniņš’s extensive catalog, ranging from his most iconic songs – foundational to Latvian culture – to lesser-known pieces presented in new orchestral arrangements .
