SGI Representatives Advocate for Peace and Climate Action at International Conferences

Representatives from Soka Gakkai International (SGI) participated in key international conferences focused on disarmament and climate change in March 2026, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to peace, sustainability, and global collaboration.

Disarmament Education for a Culture of Peace

On March 5th, Ana Ikeda from the SGI United Nations Office addressed the regional conference “Education for Peace and Security” in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. The conference, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, commemorated the International Day for Awareness on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation. Ikeda, participating as a member of civil society alongside representatives from international organizations and national governments, emphasized the crucial role of education in fostering a culture of peace and promoting the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. She highlighted the importance of education in driving internal transformation and advancing disarmament education initiatives.

Faith-Based Collaboration on Climate Change

From March 2nd to 4th, Emi Hashimoto from the International Public Relations Department of the SGI Headquarters attended the “Dialogue on Women, Faith and Climate Change” in Steyning, West Sussex, UK. Sponsored by UK government research institutes and the UK’s Department for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development, the dialogue brought together religious leaders and policymakers from around the world. The project, officially launched at COP30 in 2025 under the leadership of former Irish President Mary Robinson, recognizes that approximately 80% of the global population identifies with a faith and aims to leverage the solidarity and collaborative power of believers, particularly women, to address the climate crisis.

Over three days, participants shared case studies and discussed future initiatives related to sustainable agriculture and the expansion of renewable energy sources.
