Layvin Kurzawa Adapts to Life at Persib Bandung, From PSG to Indonesian Football

Jakarta, Indonesia – Layvin Kurzawa, the former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star, is navigating a new chapter in his football career with Persib Bandung, embracing a different culture and a new language. The 33-year-old player joined Persib in the mid-season transfer window on January 25th, marking his first foray outside of European football [Kompas.com].

Kurzawa expressed his surprise and delight at the warm reception he’s received in Indonesia, noting the extraordinary atmosphere and scenery [Kompas.com]. He is focused on adapting to the new culture and discovering new experiences.

“I was surprised because as I said before, the people here are extraordinary. The views are extraordinary,” said Kurzawa [Kompas.com].

He credits teammate Andrew Jung, as well of French origin, for easing his transition. “I am incredibly comfortable and I thank Andrew Jung every day, because thanks to him I can be here. I will continue to try to love the life I live here,” Kurzawa stated [Kompas.com].

A Different Dressing Room Dynamic

While Kurzawa’s previous clubs included AS Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, Fulham, and Boavista, he’s finding the dressing room atmosphere at Persib to be unique. Having shared space with players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar Jr., and Ezequiel Lavezzi at PSG, he recognizes the universal elements of a football changing room [Kompas.com].

“Of course it’s different. However, the football dressing room is still the football dressing room. The habits are the same, only the names (of the players) have changed,” he explained [Kompas.com].

Despite his comfort within the team, Kurzawa is still learning the local language, currently familiar with only three Indonesian words: “one, two, three” [Kompas.com].

Kurzawa’s contract with Persib is initially for half a season, with an option to extend based on his performance, as confirmed by PT Persib Bandung Bermartabat Deputy CEO, Adhitia Putra Herawan [Voi.id]. His recruitment was a direct request from the coaching staff, who believe his experience will be valuable in both the Super League and the AFC Champions League Two [Voi.id].
