Lebaran 2026 Arus Balik: Traffic Surge on Trans-Java Toll Road
Jakarta – Traffic volume on the Trans-Java toll road is experiencing a significant surge as travelers return from their Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) holidays. As of Thursday, March 26, 2026, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and implementing strategies to manage congestion.
Increased Traffic Volume
PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT) reported that 239,383 vehicles traveled on toll roads from the east towards Jakarta between March 21-24, 2026. This represents a 108.44% increase compared to the normal traffic volume of 114,843 vehicles. During the entire Lebaran period (March 11-24, 2026), JTT recorded 415,448 vehicles traveling from the eastern regions, a 6.45% increase from the typical 390,288 vehicles.
On March 25, 2026, a shift recorded 23,921 vehicles, a 193.15% increase from the normal volume of 8,160 vehicles.
Cikampek Utama Toll Gate Experiences Heavy Traffic
The Cikampek Utama toll gate is experiencing particularly heavy traffic as travelers head towards Jakarta. On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 62,527 vehicles passed through the gate, with approximately 23,000 vehicles during the first shift. The previous day, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, saw over 106,000 vehicles pass through the same toll gate.
JTT is too monitoring traffic on the Palimanan-Kanci route, which remains congested due to the high volume of vehicles from the east.
Traffic Management Measures
To mitigate congestion, JTT, in coordination with the police, has implemented several traffic management measures. These include the temporary implementation of one-way traffic flow from Kilometer 263 of the Pejagan-Pemalang toll road to Kilometer 70 of the Cikampek Utama toll road on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, as well as situational one-way traffic flow from Kilometer 425+800 of the Semarang toll road section A, B, C to Kilometer 414 of the Kalikangkung toll gate on the Batang-Semarang toll road.
As of Wednesday evening, March 25, 2026, contraflow measures from KM 70 to KM 47 in the Jakarta direction on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road were halted based on police discretion.
JTT has activated 18 toll booths to accommodate the increased traffic flow from the east towards Jakarta and 12 toll booths for traffic heading east.
Travel Recommendations
Jasamarga recommends that travelers returning to Jakarta consider traveling on March 26-27, 2026, to avoid the peak of congestion. A 30% discount on toll rates will be applied from the Kalikangkung toll gate on the Batang–Semarang toll road to the Cikampek Utama toll gate on the Jakarta–Cikampek toll road during this period.
JTT projects approximately 91,000 vehicles will pass through the Cikampek Utama toll gate on March 29, 2026.
