Nonsan City Strengthens Agricultural Product Safety with Enhanced Training and Testing

Nonsan City, South Chungcheong Province, is reinforcing its commitment to food safety through comprehensive training programs for farmers and rigorous testing of agricultural products. These efforts culminated in positive results during the recent Nonsan Strawberry Festival, where all tested samples met safety standards, ensuring consumer confidence.

Farmer Training Programs Enhance Safety Practices

From August 6th to August 20th, Nonsan City collaborated with the Chungnam Branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service and the Yangchon Agricultural Cooperative to conduct ‘Agricultural Product Safety Management Training’ for local farmers. Prior to and during the Nonsan Strawberry Festival, the city conducted safety tests on strawberries intended for sale and harvest experience farms. Future Investments in Agricultural Science

Further bolstering these efforts, Nonsan City broke ground on October 20, 2025, for a “Comprehensive Agricultural Science Analysis Center” in Buseok-myeon. This two-story, 999 square meter facility, scheduled for completion in September 2026, will house an eco-friendly agriculture management room and a produce safety analysis room. The center will conduct analyses of soil, water quality, heavy metals, livestock manure, and residual pesticides, supporting customized farming guidance and the production of high-quality, safe agricultural products. Nonsan Local Food Certification System

Nonsan City also operates a “Nonsan Local Food Certification System,” established in 2020, which requires farmers to complete mandatory training and pass residue pesticide testing to ensure the safety and quality of their products. As of July 8, 2025, the city revamped the “Nonsan Local Food Certification Mark” to enhance consumer trust and brand value. To date, 160 items from 356 farms have received certification. Mayor Baek Sung-hyeon emphasized the importance of agricultural product safety for consumer trust and pledged to expand education and inspection support to strengthen the foundation for safe food production.
