Brava Theater Announces Permanent Leadership Appointment for Kim Acebo Arteche
On April 10, 2026, Kim Acebo Arteche was observed scanning tickets for patrons attending the production of “She Kills Monsters” at Brava Theater Center in San Francisco. This public appearance coincided with the announcement of their permanent appointment as Executive Director of Brava! for Women in the Arts, a role they had held on an interim basis since July 2025.
Arteche, a nonbinary multimedia artist and career nonprofit arts administrator, initially hesitated to accept another permanent leadership role due to burnout experienced in previous positions. However, after assessing the organizational alignment at Brava, they decided to make the position permanent in March 2026.
“This is actually truly a unique opportunity to be in such an aligned organization,” Arteche stated, noting that board and staff felt in sync in a way that felt “special.” Their leadership marks a significant milestone, as they develop into just the fourth permanent executive director in the organization’s 40-year history.
The appointment comes at a pivotal time for the Mission District arts hub, which in 2024 conducted an emergency fundraising drive to address financial challenges. Under Arteche’s leadership, Brava continues to prioritize opportunities for women, artists of color, the LGBTQIA community, and other underrepresented voices through its flagship Brava Presents program.
Recent Brava Presents events include the production of “She Kills Monsters” by SFBATCO and Brava, which ran April 10–11, 2026, and upcoming events such as “Scissor Cinema: The Watermelon Woman and Saving Face” on June 5–6, 2026, and Brava’s Short Film Block – Queer Resilience on June 20, 2026.
Arteche’s permanent appointment reflects Brava’s commitment to stable, visionary leadership as it advances its mission of fostering inclusive artistic expression in San Francisco.
