Pat McAfee Joins ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown Pregame Show

According to ESPN, McAfee will appear on every broadcast of the two-hour pregame show, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. ET before Monday Night Football. For the first time, the pregame show will also be simulcast on NFL Network. The new assignment adds a prominent primetime television slot to McAfee’s existing schedule, which includes hosting his daily talk show and appearing as a fixture on ESPN’s College GameDay.

McAfee joins a revamped desk that features former players with a combined 43 NFL seasons, two Super Bowl championships, nine Pro Bowl selections, and seven First-Team All-Pro honors. McCourty also joins the broadcast team as a new face, taking over the seat previously held by Ryan Clark, who departed the network during summer layoffs.

Contract Negotiations and Network Changes

The addition of McAfee to the Monday night lineup coincides with ongoing negotiations between the analyst and ESPN regarding a new contract extension. According to a report by Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, the potential deal is valued between $60 million and $65 million per year, which would roughly double the annual value of McAfee’s current contract running through 2028. ESPN treats McAfee’s arrangement as a production agreement rather than a standard talent deal, with the analyst covering his own production and staffing costs.

The network changes arrive during a milestone year for ESPN’s NFL coverage, culminating in the broadcast of its first Super Bowl. Meanwhile, McAfee recently stepped away from professional wrestling, fulfilling a vow made on his show that he would leave WWE if Randy Orton lost his match at WrestleMania 42 against Cody Rhodes.
