Jack Reagan could return to the screen or receive a direct storyline update during the upcoming sophomore run of Boston Blue, according to showrunners Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. The CBS crime drama premieres its second season on Friday, October 9, at 10 p.m. Eastern, bringing the ongoing legacy of the Reagan family back into focus.
Showrunners Address Potential Jack Reagan Storyline
When asked whether Danny Reagan’s older son will appear or receive a mention in the new episodes, co-creator and showrunner Brandon Sonnier told TV Insider that it is “possible” viewers will get an update on Jack during Season 2. The production team stopped short of confirming a formal casting or exact return date, leaving open the question of who might play the character if he steps back into the fold.
On Blue Bloods, Jack and his younger brother Sean Reagan were played by real-life brothers Tony and Andrew Terraciano. While the Boston-set spinoff cast Mika Amonsen to take over the role of Sean for the new series, Tony Terraciano’s character Jack was previously accounted for through dialogue. The last update placed Jack in Africa, working with Doctors Without Borders while completing his medical training.
Recasting Sean Reagan
The transition behind Sean Reagan’s character sparked substantial online discussion ahead of the series premiere in 2025. Co-creator Brandon Margolis explained to TV Insider that the production wanted a slightly different version of Sean—an actor who visually resembled the character audiences watched grow up, but who had undergone distinct life changes by joining the police force.
Meanwhile, Mika Amonsen addressed the online reactions directly, noting that negative comments did not deter him from focusing on his performance. Amonsen told TV Insider that his primary goal was honoring the work Andrew Terraciano established while bringing his own interpretation to the character.
