Lo-fi psychological horror game Heartworm launched on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 on October 1, 2026, according to an announcement from developer Vincent Adinolfi and publisher DreadXP.
Heartworm Brings Retro Survival Horror to Consoles
Players step into the shoes of Sam, a young woman processing the death of her grandfather. Her search for closure pulls her into online forums and eventually leads her to a remote haunted mountain house. Armed only with a camera used as a weapon to fend off supernatural entities, players explore memories and mourning that blur the line between reality and visions.
The console release features optional tank controls, PSX-style visuals, and retro effects. Players can customize these settings to replicate a late-90s aesthetic or dial back the nostalgia for a modern experience. The campaign spans four to six hours of exploration, featuring an original soundtrack, evocative environments, puzzle-solving, and multiple endings.
Vincent Adinolfi, a Connecticut-based indie developer, worked on game concepts since adolescence before moving into active production in 2019. Heartworm marks his team’s debut published title. DreadXP, an independent horror games publisher and sister company to horror film producer DREAD, handles the release. DreadXP’s catalog includes titles such as The Mortuary Assistant, My Friendly Neighborhood, and Dread Delusion.
