Three members of a pro-Iran militia in Iraq have been killed and six others reportedly wounded in a drone attack in Baghdad on Thursday. The drones hit one of the barracks of the Popular Mobilization Forces (FMP)a pro-Iran paramilitary coalition with a presence in the Iraqi Parliament.
Police sources and witnesses told Reuters that at least two rockets hit the scene. The attack affected one of the buildings used by FMP’s Al-Nujaba’a militia. One of his spokespersons noted that three of his fighters have died, including a local commander.
“The bombing targeted one of our centers east of Baghdad and was carried out by (unmanned) aircraft, we believe they were American. They caused two martyrs,” FMP sources told Al Jazeera radio station. Iraqi authorities stated that they currently have no details of who carried out the attack and that they have launched an investigation into what happened.
Washington and Tel Aviv have carried out multiple airstrikes in Iraqi territory since October 7 against pro-Iran militias, which support Hamas in its war against Israel. For their part, pro-Iran militias have attacked US soldiers in Iraq and also launched missiles at Israel in recent weeks.
