AC/DC Guitarist Stevie Young Hospitalized in Buenos Aires

AC/DC guitarist Stevie Young was hospitalized in Buenos Aires, Argentina, ahead of the band’s upcoming concerts, but is expected to perform as scheduled. The band is set to play three sold-out shows at the Estadio River Plate on March 23, 27, and 31.

Condition and Treatment

Upon arriving in Buenos Aires, Young was feeling unwell and was admitted to a local hospital “out of an abundance of caution” to undergo a full battery of tests, according to a statement released by the event’s promoter via the Associated Press.

A spokesperson for the band stated that Young “is doing well and in good spirits” and “is looking forward to getting on stage on Monday,” referring to the first concert date on March 23 as reported by Reuters.

Stevie Young’s Role in AC/DC

Stevie Young, the 69-year-old nephew of AC/DC founders Malcolm and Angus Young, joined the band in 2014 after Malcolm Young stepped down due to health issues according to Ultimate Classic Rock. Malcolm Young passed away in 2017 after suffering from dementia.

Young previously played with the band in 1988, substituting for Malcolm Young during a U.S. Tour.

Current Tour and Future Dates

AC/DC’s current “Power Up” world tour began in 2024 and is named after their 2020 album, released as a tribute to Malcolm Young as noted by the Associated Press. Following the Buenos Aires concerts, the band is scheduled to perform in Mexico City in early April and will begin a new leg of the tour in North America in July Ultimate Classic Rock reports.

The band last performed in Argentina in 2009, with nearly 200,000 fans attending their concerts.
