Art Directors Guild Awards 2026: ‘Frankenstein,’ ‘One Battle After Another,’ and ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Capture Top Honors
The 30th annual Art Directors Guild (ADG) Awards were presented Saturday night at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, celebrating excellence in production design across film, television, and commercials. Several winners are now poised to contend for the Academy Awards, as ADG winners have frequently gone on to win the Oscar for Art Direction/Production Design in 20 of the past 29 years, including 2025.[1]
Film Awards
Frankenstein, with production design by Tamara Deverell, won the Period Feature Film award. One Battle After Another, designed by Florencia Martin, took the Contemporary Feature Film prize. Kasra Farahani scored an upset win in the Fantasy Feature Film category for Disney/Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, beating out competition including Avatar: Fire and Ash and Wicked: For Good.[1]
Notably, KPop Demon Hunters, designed by Mingjue Helen Chen and Dave Bleich, won the Animated Feature Film award. This win follows recent accolades for the film, including sweeps at the Annie Awards, a VES Award, and an Eddie Award.[1]
Television Awards
Apple TV+ series dominated several television categories. Julie Berghoff won the Half Hour Single Camera Series Prize for The Studio, while Jeremy Hindle took the One-Hour Contemporary Single-Camera Series award for Severance. Jon Carlos won the One-Hour Period Single-Camera prize for Palm Royale.[1]
Luke Hull won the One-Hour Fantasy Series award for Disney+’s Andor, which also recently received a VES Award. Glenda Rovello of Hulu’s Mid-Century Modern won for Multi-Camera Series, and Matthew Flood Ferguson won for TV Movie or Limited Series, Monster: The Ed Gein Story.[1]
Variety & Commercials
Akira Yoshimura, Keith Ian Raywood, N. Joseph De Tullio, and Andrea Purcigliott won the Variety or Reality Series prize for the Lady Gaga-hosted episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, and followed with another win for the SNL 50: The Anniversary Special. Florencia Martin also won for Commercials, with Prada’s “Galleria Bag” campaign. Shane Valentin won for Short Format & Music Videos, with Apple’s “Someday” by Spike Jonze.[1]
Special Honors & In Memoriam
Jon M. Chu, filmmaker of Wicked and Wicked: For Good, received the 2026 Cinematic Imagery Award from Awkwafina. Representative Laura Friedman (D-CA) received the inaugural President’s Award for her support of the entertainment industry.[1]
Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to set designer Jann Engel, production designer Thomas E. Sanders (posthumously), production designer Bo Welch, and scenic artist Stephen McNally, and storyboard artist and production designer Tom Southwell.[1]
The In Memoriam segment honored professionals lost in the past year, including Vance Lorenzini, Stuart Craig, Scott Herbertson, Noele King, E. Jay Krause, Julia Levine, Dean Mitzner, Stephen Runninger, Frankie Smith, Jonathan Velasco, Les Dilley, and Barbara Hall.[1]
