Adidas Unveils 2026 World Cup Kits with Return of Trefoil Logo
Adidas has officially presented the new away shirts for its partnered teams for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the return of the iconic Trefoil logo to international football after a 36-year absence. The sportswear giant is launching uniforms for 25 federations, 13 of which have already qualified for the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Blending Tradition and Modernity
The new kits aim to combine tradition and contemporary design. Inspired by the cultural identities of each country, the jerseys revisit classic World Cup elements like geometric graphics and stylized stripes, reinterpreted for a modern aesthetic. The prominent feature is the return of the Trefoil logo on the chest, a historic symbol of Adidas Originals.
National Identity and Cultural References
Each jersey is designed to tell the story of its nation, incorporating references to cultural landmarks, architecture, landscapes, and significant dates. The collection too draws inspiration from the aesthetics of the 1990s, adapted for the demands of modern football.
Performance Technology
Beyond visual appeal, the uniforms incorporate advanced performance technologies. Fabrics utilize CLIMACOOL+ technology, featuring advanced materials and 3D elasticity mapped to the body for lightweight breathability, sweat absorption, and thermal comfort. Jacquard construction ensures lightness and freedom of movement, whereas the signature three stripes on the shoulders feature special stitching to enhance breathability.
Launch Event in Los Angeles
Adidas celebrated the launch with an event in Los Angeles, bringing together figures from sport, music, and urban culture. The Lower Grand Tunnel was transformed into a street party atmosphere, showcasing the new uniforms with performances by Kaytranada and Baby Keem.
“As we approach a mammoth World Cup, traveling through three incredible host countries, we felt it was the perfect and inspiring time to bring the shamrock back to world football’s biggest stage. This is a defining era of football culture. Its style transcends the boundaries of life and niches of subculture like never before, and the shirt is perhaps the most faithful representation of that. In doing so, these designs pay homage to each country whilst offering every fan a catalog of football designs that extends across beyond the pitches and stands”, says Sam Handy, General Manager of Football at adidas.
