AI Startup School Launches in Italy to Boost Youth Entrepreneurship
A modern initiative, AI Startup School, has been launched in Italy to address a decline in youth entrepreneurial activity and equip students and young entrepreneurs with the skills needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. The project, a collaboration between Talent Garden, TikTok Shop Italia, Intesa Sanpaolo, and Lenovo, aims to provide free training and mentorship to aspiring founders.
The Challenge: Declining Youth Entrepreneurship in Italy
Despite strong interest among Italian university students in pursuing careers in startups and innovation – with 80% expressing such interest according to European Commission data Intesa Sanpaolo – Italy has experienced a decrease in youth entrepreneurial ventures. Over 153,000 youth entrepreneurial activities have been lost in the last decade, falling from approximately 640,000 in 2014 to 486,000 in 2024.
AI Startup School: A Collaborative Response
AI Startup School is designed to counteract this trend by offering practical skills and tools to transform ideas into viable startups. The initiative is spearheaded by Talent Garden, a European leader in AI business schools, in partnership with the Italian Founders Fund, TikTok Shop Italia, Intesa Sanpaolo, and Lenovo, under the patronage of Confindustria.
Curriculum and Mentorship
The program features training videos curated by prominent Italian founders, including Luca Ferrari (Bending Spoons), Alberto Dalmasso (Satispay), Paolo De Nadai (WeRoad), and others. These videos cover essential topics such as entrepreneurship, business management, technological innovation, and AI. Participants will also benefit from live workshops in Italian universities, mentorship sessions with managers from partner companies, and access to the Talent Garden community. The Italian Founders Fund will provide guidance and potential investment opportunities.
TikTok’s Role: Supporting Small and Medium-Sized Entrepreneurs
TikTok Shop Italia is contributing through its SOAR (Supporting Our Artisans & Retailers) program, aimed at supporting small and medium-sized entrepreneurs and creators in their e-commerce growth.
Industry Support and Investment
Lenovo is reinforcing its commitment to supporting innovation in Italy by providing young entrepreneurs with the tools to build impactful startups. Intesa Sanpaolo is also actively involved in fostering the growth of Italian tech companies, as demonstrated by a €70 million loan provided to Bending Spoons for international expansion in 2023.
Addressing Gender Imbalance
The program also aims to address the underrepresentation of women in the startup ecosystem. According to a report by Unioncamere, only 12.6% of innovative startups in Italy have a female founder, and AI Startup School seeks to improve this statistic.
Looking Ahead
AI Startup School represents a concerted effort to revitalize youth entrepreneurship in Italy, leveraging the power of AI and collaborative partnerships. By providing practical training, mentorship, and access to resources, the initiative aims to cultivate a new generation of Italian leaders capable of driving innovation and economic growth.
