Alex Eala Advances at Indian Wells, Sets Rematch with Coco Gauff

It was a memorable debut for Alexandra Eala at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Despite temperatures dropping and approaching midnight, Eala and her supporters remained as her match against Dayana Yastremska extended close to three hours. The 20-year-old Filipina persevered, defeating the former Grand Slam semifinalist 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 and will now face Coco Gauff in the third round.

A Grueling Battle Against Yastremska

Eala’s victory over Yastremska marked her second consecutive win against the Ukrainian player, following a quarterfinal triumph at the Lexus Eastbourne Open last year ESPN. However, this encounter proved far more challenging, with both players trading momentum throughout three tightly contested sets.

The opening set was a baseline exchange, with both players breaking serve and reaching a 3-3 tie. Rematch with Coco Gauff

Eala will now face world No. 4 Coco Gauff in the Round of 32 The Chronicle. This will be a rematch following Gauff’s dominant victory over Eala at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships earlier this season ESPN.

“I’m excited,” Eala said Tennis365. “It was a tough match for me last time. I think she played really well. So all I can do is take the learnings that I have from our last match and try to implement that in our next one.”
